Preparing CUNY teacher candidates (TCs’) to teach computing and digital literacies to their future learners requires them to practice these skills while they are still CUNY students – during their fieldwork, student teaching clinical placements. Ensuring TCs get opportunities to practice computing integration is challenging.
To begin to understand those barriers and to work on potential solutions, the CUNY CITE initiative, in collaboration with our partners at NYCPS CSforAll, are establishing a Computing in Clinical (CiC) Pilot and Working Group.
See our one-pager here for more information about expectations for participants.
Goals
- Develop shared language among key stakeholders around problems of practice and conditions related to computing integrated lesson implementation in clinical
- Surface the enablers and challenges that clinical supervisors, TCs, and cooperating teachers experience as they attempt to implement or support implementation of computing integrated lessons in P-8 classrooms
- Understand the supports that clinical supervisors and cooperating teachers provide as TCs implement these lessons
- Surface the types of computing and digital literacies integrated lessons and activities that CUNY TCs plan and implement for K-8 classrooms
- Inform future clinical activity designs and supports.
